FingerPrince Blag - No.1
The House music blog from the underground
Issue No.1 - PALE PEOPLE - The record and gig that changed shit for me.
Kerri Chandler - Arnold Jarvis “Inspiration”
Tell us about it..
This record has always had the most memories for me, I was bang into Kerri Chandler, MAW, US garage stuff but I don’t remember loving it when I first bought it, probably just grabbed it as it was Kerri, but that all changed after a watching him spin at the Hub Club in Bath. He played Inspiration live with Arnold Jarvis, it was literally inspirational for me and its been one of my favourite records ever since.
The night was a wicked memory, for me it was everything house music should be, the club was literally underground, it had like a hexagon type dance floor with a few step levels, Dj booth kind of part of it, dark, smokey and everyone kind of connected, it was set up for people to dance. I went with with Lil’Mark, Matt Styles and our friends Guy and Ian, I just kinda felt like I got what house music and parties were about after that night.
The Hub Club was wicked, such a shame it ain’t there anymore, I always wish I could have played there. The club just worked, I also saw DJ Hype play there and rip the place up, just like Kerri did, no-one wanted to go home.
I’ve got a few copies of the record, if I find any in the crates in good condition I will always buy it - there is loads on discogs but youve gotta buy your favourite music when you find it digging.
It’s obviously a well known record, but I don’t think its ever had the recognition is deserves, not that Kerri Chandler needs it! For me though its a special record, its part of my collection that I just love to sit and listen to in my studio, one of those records that is always timeless for me, special like Derrick Carters Sound Patrol Orchestra, Tripping among the stars and other shit like that but inspiration is there because of the memory mainly I think.
I once bought a box of records - took a punt without knowing exactly what was in there, i’ll never forget it as one of the first records I pulled out was Lil’Mark at that place on Classic, then a few later was Inspiration, mint condition too, well happy.
Whats interesting is I have never heard it played out ever since that night, I have never played it out either, might do one day but cos I experienced how good it was live no way it will hit the same vibe, but maybe one day.
